We highlight what should be seen. Not just because other blogs have it already (sound familiar?), or because the PR machines tell us... Simply because we like it and we want to share it with you. Music powered by Trackbreakers.com.

Although Static & Greedy are known for bringing electro-house/nu-rave dj-sets, we’re very fond of synthy vocal pop/electronica with an 80s twist. And it’s on that basis that SHINDU was born. Contemporary influences are Rex The Dog, La Roux, Robyn, Grum, Ali Love etc.
Our tracks are written and produced with the essential help of our good friend Sebastiaan Vandevoorde (known from Villa, Moonlight Matters).
They have recently completed their first track "Dreams" which they let us get a sneak listen to. It definitely hearkens the 80's in it's uptempo, plastic synthy goodness and it's personal ambition to rise above the bleak.
Meanwhile while they put their production catalog into growth mode they hooked us up with this electro mix featuring remixes from Lykke Li, Robyn, Ladytron, MGMT, Vandroid and a club edit of "Dreams". Hit the jump for the tracklist.
Chris Brown was the musical guest on last night's Saturday Night Love. He performed his current slow jam banger "No Bullsh*t" and his new single "Yeah (3x)."
"Odd Future (a truncation of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) is an irreverent, against-the-grain, Hip hop group out of California, whose output in 2010 was the subject of much polarizing discussion. Needless to say, material that's heavy on shock value (no Timbo), off-the-beaten-path pyscho-emo ethos and the group's viral savvy has won them a cult following all over world. They remind us of a late 90's Emimen, hungry and savage.
One of OFWGKTA's leading lights happens to be Tyler the Creator. It's hard to believe he still can't legally buy himself an alcoholic bevarage in the US. His darkly emotional, morally disturbing 2010 album Bastard is worshipped by some and we know the arrival of the sophomore set Goblin in April is awaited with great anticipation. Pitchfork called Bastard "among the most stunning things released in the past 12 months."
Presenting a view of what the next generation of hip hop may look like. It may be difficult to fathom for some, but it is difficult to turn away. The beat thumps with minimalist zeal and Tyler annihilates Bruno Mars, has threesomes with raptors, tells Jesus to quit it, has a Xanax trip and has cooking sessions with some overweight ladies... yeah...
That's just the lyrics. We wont tell you what happens to the giant Madagascan cockroach in the video. Proceed to watch at your own risk. A selection from the upcoming album.
This vlog chronicles UK's Tinie Tempah's trip to the USA. He speaks about what makes him different from an American artist and his work ethic. He also records vocals for a remix with Dev.
As announced months ago, Lady Gaga's new single from her sophomore album (also called Born This Way) is here. She will perform it live on Grammy Night this coming Sunday. We hear pieces of Madonna on this, though her Little Monsters won't mind, they were probably in diapers back then.
Meanwhile, we can almost hear Akon yelling "Ching! Ching!" Her album arrives May 23rd.
This New Zealand singer and drummer is currently preparing her debut release. Slide us a mean late pass on this new video from her. "Bite Back" has a driving electro base and we appreciate her futuristic, leather-clad and pointy shoulder pad fashion sense in this video.
Earlier this week the New York Times quoted Parlux Fragrances, makers of Rihanna's new signature fragrance, describing their new advert as a "palindrome." It works identically when played in reverse.
The ad was designed by Manhattan Ad Agency Droga5.
What viewers may find mind-boggling is that the video was choreographed to make it difficult to determine in which direction it was originally filmed. There are no obvious giveaways — say, flower petals being plucked in one direction and the petals being reattached in the other.
Misha Louy, an executive producer at Droga5 who worked on the video, explained that in some shots Rihanna was even filmed walking backward, or was directed to walk forward in such a way that when the video was played in reverse it “wouldn’t look like she was moonwalking backwards.”
We brought you some footage earlier in the week of Talib Kweli and Sean Price performing, this is a better distilled version of how it went down at Hiphop Nation when the Duck Down artists dropped in.

Seriously though, how many times is DJ Khaled going to make the same record? Oh wait Akon missed this one, never mind. I hope they get KRS One for the remix.
"Comparing me with these basic chics is like feeding junk food to Kate Moss..."
This do-it-all MC (and singer/songwriter/keyboard player) is at home doing Hip hop, Grime and Funky House in a way that most other rhyme specialists may envy. After a short hiatus, Lioness stormed back in 2010 with the Loch Ness Monster mixtape and dropped another mixtape in January, Featureness, a collection of her biggest appearances on wax in 2010 as well as radio interviews on Splash FM and BBC 1Xtra.
2011 promises to be big for the South East Londoner. We can expect her debut full length project Me And Her and another mixtape Roar-Ness will precede that.
This anti-materialism pop ditty entered the UK singles chart at #1 and her tour is sold out. Get used to her. By the time we post this, the video will have reached 9 million hits on Vevo, or close.
Live band outfit ¡MAYDAY! drop a video for the remix off their 2010 mixtape Lords Of The Fly. The original version is on their sophomore LP Stuck On An Island. Video is co-directed by the band and Rommel Garcia. Viewer discretion is advised.

Directed by Nabil Elderkin, frequent go-to lensman for Kanye West, which explains why this video has a simlar look to Kanye's moving portrait for "Power." A selection from their highly acclaimed 2010 Distant Relatives collaborative album.
Erykah Badu brings us this futuristic conveyor belt glide in the video for the song off her 2010 release Amerykah Part II: Return Of The Ankh. At the controls is Flying Lotus, and we love how he always moves hip hop in trippy new directions. Him teaming up with Erykah makes perfect sense. Hope there will be more to come from the two of them.
Big K.R.I.T stopped by the Sirius Radio studios to hang out with Terry Urban and Mick Boogie on the Press Play show and talked about the origins of his name and signing with The House That Russ Built among other things.
Directed by Masar, French Montana follows up "Choppa Choppa Down" with a new cut featuring Mak Mustard. Good to see French still doing things with Max B's compadres.
A tribute to one of the greatest hip hop producers ever. In the space of a week we celebrate his birthday and his life. We pay homage to James Dewitt Yancey aka J Dilla (February 7, 1974 - February 10, 2006).
Leading off is his partner in the famed Ummah production team Q-Tip.
Dilla's younger brother (also a producer/ rapper) Illa J and Slum Village bandmate T3 share some thoughts.
After the jump a performance by the Suite for Ma Dukes Orchestra. They should've taken this show on the road. They transformed "Untitled/Fantastic" into a whole new sonic experience.
Pat is trapped in a humdrum existence. Have no fear. Magical Spirit Bear is here.

Stalley's free album Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music) dropped today. It features 16 tracks produced by producer/vocalist Rashad. Serious knock on this collection, definitely built to rattle trunks, and the bars are top notch. Lovely cover art, that should be the emblem to something.
Jack Thriller shares some moments with one of the most enigmatic, polarizing and prolific young hip hop artist today. Fresh off another triumphant display in New York with a sold out show recently, The BasedGod shares some insight into his free-ranging lurches from one extreme to another. This recent NPR piece accompanies this interview nicely.
Media Gasface have been doing a series of hiphopcentric short documentaries on New York that are must watch. For this instalment, they get together with Sasha Jenkins, one of the founders of Ego Trip Magazine, who shares his wisdom about Queen's place in the Hip hop Pantheon. It just wasn't about the Bronx back in the day.
David Guetta caught up with Usher at a recent Usher OMG Tour stop. They talk about the pop revolution they're carrying out, aka, making R&B records that clock in at 110+ bpms. We thought that had been done already, in the late 80's early 90's.
Shawn Chrystopher kicks it with Thisis50 sharing some insight about who he is, the New West not being so gangsta'd out, working on being on the XXL Freshmen cover and Hip hop's evolution.
Emilio Rojas and Mickey Factz throw mud on the ex-chic. Viewer discretion is advised, video NSFW. Directed by Derek Pike. The blues sample on this is tuff-gong.
UK rapper and producer Breakbeat UKSP sent us this video to this personal motivation anthem "Standing Tall." Just the other day, I finally heard Tinie Tempah's breakout hit on a mixshow on an East Coast US terrestrial radio station. Are we seeing the early days of an English rap invasion? Sounds like it. Check out Breakbeat UKSP's website for raw performance footage including him on the drums going sick.
Westcoaster TiRon brings along frequent collaborator Ayomari for the 2011 edition of "Get Up Get Out and Get Something." Track is produced by DK and video was shot by Andrew Quesada.
The New West keeps bubbling. Damn California... that blue ass sky....
Omarion covers Jodeci's "Come And Talk to Me." Who would've thought Jodeci's raunchy bedroom jams would one day be grown man music? Omarion does his thing, but those Jodeci harmonies he doesn't quite interpret. What y'all think?
Stalley's album Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music) arrives February 8th. Video directed by Kellen Dengler and track is produced by Rashad. Hey we hear that tuba on the bassline, dope.
Bay Area rapper Locksmith has teamed up with Dojo Master Ski Beatz for an EP called Embedded. Those BluRoc Boys are hard at work. It will be interesting to see a hyped-up rapid-fire spitter like Locksmith have a go at Ski production as a counterpoint to Curren$y's laid back flow. Also congrats are in order to the BluRock team also for helping land Curren$y a label deal at Warner Records. Those 2010 albums helmed by Ski Beatz, Pilot Talk and Pilot Talk 2 helped his career out majorly.
Fabolous is preparing to drop a new mixtape The S.O.U.L Tape sometime this month. First leak out is a freestyle over Kanye's "Devil In A New Dress." That Bink! beat is perfection.
One half of the famed Capone-N-Noreaga duo releases a video to this knocking two-stepper for the G's. It won't be just Nore delivering a solo album this year. Capone is hard at work getting his joint ready.
Maybe this is the reason Chris Brown wanted the restraining order taken off recently. He's dying for a hog-tie session. Maybe this is exactly what Rihanna wants to do to him. Maybe this is what she wants to do to all the detractors and Illuminati fear mongers. Maybe "chains and whips really excite" her...
We're always late to the party going on across the pond in Europe, and we need a late pass when it comes to Dutch vocalist Joya Mooi, who released her debut project Hard Melk almost a year ago (ouch!). We're just getting acquainted with her Jazz-based Soul stylings. Joya Mooi sings with a sweet, delicate and harmonious coo. "Pact With The Sun" hits home with the afrobeat drum pattern, stuttering bassline and floating wah-wah guitar to accompany Joya's etherealness.
Hard Melk it turns out was originally started as a musical project for a theatrical production that she was involved with, and it grew into its own thing. Producers SirOJ, Wan, Presto, Hayzee, Big2 and Full Crate created a sound that dips into Jazz, Funk and Electro that compliments Joya Mooi beautifully. It's always refreshing to hear songs like "Doctor" that step out of the themes of romance that soul music has wrapped itself with. Check out her album, available now.
Karl Lagerfield shot Kanye West for the next issue of the quarterly fashion gloss VMAN (hey, what is with the new-found adoration in hip hop for the Karl-man?).
With the media hoopla about to reach into the upper stratosphere as the release date for Kanye's and Jay-Z's Watch The Throne LP nears, we expect the some of the gimmicks surrounding the project to be otherworldly. And the video below, we believe, proves us right. We'll be right here waiting for the Asian elephants, 36 virgins from Tahiti and the half of the art collection in the Louvre to get imported stateside as part of the album release bash in Atlantic City.
Boston has been a vanguard of the Boom-Bap sound, incubating and supplying the culture with many true school acts, the height of which was during the underground movement's "Post -Backpack Era" of the early 2000's. A time when the current evolution of the urban music blogosphere lived on message boards and college radio.
A lot of those artists have forged ahead, and in these murky days of Music Industry woes continue to keep the hard hitting sound thumping through your audio devices. For the Bloggeratsi video two-piece (B2P) we present Boston Boom-Bap.
Rapper Termanology & DJ/producer Statik Selektah teamed up last year to form the group 1982 and dropped an album. The video is directed by James Curtis.
A follow-up to their collaboration two years ago, Reks and DJ Premier reunite for this single off Reks' new album Rhythm Eternal King Supreme arriving in March on Statik's Showoff Records. Reks is also an alumni of that upsurgent era in the Boston scene. His third album will feature production from Pete Rock, Hi-tek, Alchemist and Nottz as well as guest appearances by Styles P. and Freeway among others.
Nice, so Cee-Lo is preparing a video for one of our favorite tracks of 2010, a top ten nominee track (some of us would say even over grammy nominated "F*ck You"). Directed by Mikael Colombu and featuring Kerry Washington, Janelle Monae and Karl Lagerfield. Wow. Can't wait to peep this.
